Crowdfunding Case Study

Overview:  This was an original research project for a self-designed User Experience Capstone through Udacity, were to identify ways users currently interact with community apps and how they prefer to contribute to their communities through crowdfunding platforms.

Problem Statement: Citizens who live in neighborhood communities next to each other need ways to share fundraisers among themselves, because they would rather give to causes that they feel connected to.

Research Goals: Understanding how users give to fundraising events and if they prefer to give locally or to a vested interest.

Methods: Contextual inquiry through in-person interviews, surveys, market research, and afterwards creating user personas to represent target users’ stories, needs, and behaviors.

Community Impact Case Study

Overview:  The following was a challenge from the 2020 Design-a-thon, of which my teammates and I were finalists in competing in and had one week to present our solution around the following prompt.

Project Prompt:  How can Austinites connect and make an impact locally?

Hypothesis:  Based on user research (interviews and survey responses), we surmised that by using inclusive technology and an innovative mobile app platform, which would combine a virtual town hall and “task rabbit” aggregator, we would allow for more users who are normally disenfranchised to become more involved civically in their local community.

Research & Methodology

Methodology: Survey Analysis; User Interviews

Process My team and I recruited individuals via email and phone.  The participants varied in age, ethnicity, region, experiences and beliefs. We surveyed others via email using Google forms to identify annual income, socio-economic and marital status.

Design Concepts & Sketching

Initial Feature Ideation from Our Key Findings

We identified the following User Needs & Behaviors in which to base our concepts sketches on, via an Affinity Diagram.  We then used those findings to create user personas and incorporate the following features into our mobile app design:

Feature 1

●  The mobile app will allow users to connect with each other through a virtual Town Hall.

Feature 2

●  The mobile app will allow users to access localized information through a City Wiki.

Feature 3

●  The mobile app will allow people to have a synthesis of local news, pulled from credible news sources and synced with soundbites that are overviews of the most critical news stories for easier consumption.

Other features include notification of ways to get involved with their local community and featured activities. See our feature prioritization matrix on the next page.
